Meet Your Coaching Team

DSA Directors: Robbie & Tammy Krul

Leading our coaching team are directors, Robbie and Tammy Krul.  The couple began Dutch Soccer Academy in 1997 and they have fifteen years coaching experience developing students throughout the country.

Robbie has received his soccer coaching credentials through the prestigious KNVB soccer association in Holland and is capable of teaching a wide variety of ages and development stages.   Robbie is also an accomplished soccer player being selected to play for the first team of the highest amateur division in the Netherlands at the young age of 17.  His professional career in the Netherlands took a detour when he was recruited to play for Franklin Pierce College in the United States.  He only intended to stay for one season as an adventure in America, but it was there that he met his future wife-to-be, Tammy Thibodeau, and decided to remain in the USA a while longer.  While at Franklin Pierce College, he received many awards and was recognized as being one of the top forwards in the country.

Maine native Tammy Thibodeau, played soccer for Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, New Hampshire.  While there, her team captured two NCAA Division II National Championships and one appearance in the NCAA Final Four Tournament.  Tammy is the current head coach of the University of Maine at Presque Isle Women’s Soccer Team.

The soccer couple resides in Caribou, Maine with their three children, Josiah, Kassie, and Kaylyn.


Goalie Director: Ton Snip

DSA’s Goalie Program is headed by Ton Snip of the Netherlands. Ton comes to America from the Zaanstreek-Waterland region of Holland where he is highly respected for training goal keepers. Currently, he looks after two goalies that he trained who are now playing for professional teams in Holland. Ton is also the coordinator for the prestigious KFC soccer club in Holland where he also coaches the women’s team.  Ton keeps busy organizing various soccer clinics throughout Holland and is a tremendous mentor to many coaches and players alike.  Ton’s depth of experience and knowledge of the game has made a huge impact at Dutch Soccer Academy.  He is well respected and admired by his students as well as his colleagues.


Director of Coaching: Jan Reurings

Overseeing our DSA summer staff and soccer curriculum is Jan Reurings from the Netherlands. His depth of experience and knowledge of the different stages of development in children will greatly enhance our ability to develop our soccer students.

Jan is currently working full time for the KNVB (Royal Dutch National Soccer Association) as a player coach and also as a coaches instructor. He has coached the national selection U17 girls team and was an assistant for the Dutch National Women's Team. In addition, he has coached boys and girls regional selection teams which both have captured consecutive national championships. Jan also has 25 years of experience as a physical education teacher and is responsible for developing a Technical Youth Coordinator course for soccer coaches.

Jan's passion is teaching coaches how to become better instructors because better coaches can help players to develop to their potential. He believes that the role of a coach is very important, but it is even more important to work with players who are motivated to become better players. Jan is looking forward to working with our DSA coaches and players and we are honored to have him join our effort to raise the level of coaching in the state of Maine and New Hampshire.


Paul Mortier

Joins our staff from Belgium where he works as a physical education teacher.   He will add great depth of wisdom to our list of instructors having been a licensed coach since 1986 from the Royal Belgium Soccer Association.  Paul holds a UEFA A License since 2002, which is the highest possible achievement as a coach.  In June of 2007, he received a recognition award for his work done with technical responsible national youth certification development at the premier professional club, Sporting Lokeren.  Paul currently oversees 28 coaches at a professional club in Belgium in addition to many other soccer related achievements. 

Paul also has extensive playing experience as well having played for the National Youth team of Belgium as well as playing professionally in Belgium where he captured 3 national championships.

Paul is a highly motivated individual who is capable of teaching the very most complex components of the game, but also enjoys working with children and youth development.  He is looking forward to coming to Maine and NH to not only make our students better, but also to make himself better as a coach and for the unique personal experience.



Marieke van Tienhoven

Joining our summer staff from Ter Apel, Holland, is Marieke van Tienhoven, an accomplished player as well as soccer educator. She has high-level playing experience in both the Netherlands and the United States. She has played for v.v UDO as well as the first division team, Ter Leede ladies 2 in Sassenheim. In America, she played for the 2004 national finalist NJ Wildcats team, a women’s soccer team that plays in the W-League - the largest women's sports league in North America.

Marieke was educated at the prestigious CIOS School in Holland where she majored in soccer coaching as well as moving and care. She was also trained in running & conditioning, sports for the handicapped, and sports massage. As a coach, she has worked for many organizations throughout Holland and the USA including Octagon CIS, Fox Kids soccer camps, SCI sport management, and CIS B.B. Nike Park. Her playing, coaching, and travel experience gives her a well-rounded soccer perspective. Marieke is an excellent role model for our DSA students and we are excited to have her on staff.



Leon Emmel

Leon Emmel is a well educated soccer instructor who also works as a physical education teacher in Zeist, Holland.  He coaches at Alphense Boys, a premier soccer club in Holland for the U-12 first division in the country at the highest level possible.  In addition to coaching a team, Leon is also one of the head coaches of a soccer technique academy in the Netherlands called The Complete Techniek where he specializes in training individual youths.  In addition to his coaching experience, Leon also has undergone a year of intense study to earn his TC 3 coaching license from the prestigious KNVB soccer association.



Jeroen Haarsma

Jeroen Haarsma of the Netherlands has had the unique experience of playing professional soccer for FC Volendam, a premiership team in Holland where he still plays on the second level due to a recent knee injury.  When he is not training, Jeroen keeps busy as a soccer journalist for a local Dutch newspaper as well as being a full time law student at the University of Amsterdam.   He is a natural leader and an excellent communicator who is anxious to share his passion and experience with our American students.



Christiaan van den Vlekkert

Christiaan van den Vlekkert is another Dutch newcomer to DSA who will be a dynamic addition to our coaching team.  As a coach, he is specifically licensed and trained to work with U-12 youth.  He has his CIII youth coaching certification through the world renowned KNVB Dutch Soccer Association.  He has also studied and been certified to teach on moves and skills by Rene Meulensteen training techniques of Manchester United from England.  As a player, he has played in the highest amateur Dutch league.  Christiaan currently is the head coach for the U-9 and U-13 premier Dutch soccer club WVF.



Jeroen Bastiaan van de Wetering

Jeroen Bastiaan van de Wetering is an accomplished Dutch soccer trainer who will greatly enhance our ability to teach the game to our DSA summer camp students. He also has been certified to teach moves and skills by Rene Meulensteen training techniques of Manchester United from England.  Jeroen has his Trainer Coach III License as well the prestigious Trainer Coach II License from the KNVB Royal Dutch Soccer Association.  He has a wealth of experience working with youth at various ages and stages of development. He currently coaches at the Voetbalschool Techniek, a moves and skills soccer school in Hilversum, Holland.

Jeroen will head DSA’s 2008 advanced class and help our students prepare their bodies for maximum soccer performance.  He is a certified soccer strength & conditioning coach since 2004.  We are looking forward to learning from Jeroen as we coach along side him this summer.



Daniel Williams: Junior Division Director

Returning for his third season with Dutch Soccer Academy is Daniel Williams from Eastbourne, England. Dan’s animated and high-energy approach to teaching the game of soccer has set him apart as one of DSA’s all-time favorite coaches. He does an excellent job motivating and encouraging his students.  He brings so much life and fun to the field and makes the DSA camp experience uniquely memorable for our students.

Dan started his playing career at Eastbourne Borough F.C. in the Southern conference where he was the only player in five years to make it to the first team from their youth & reserves.  Dan also played for Sussex where he captained the team that captured two consecutive League Championships. Currently, Dan plays for Hastings in the Ryman Premier where he is known for his tenacious defending and dominating style of play.



Matthew Jones

Englishman, Matt Jones (Coach Jonah) will return for another season with Dutch Soccer Academy in 2008. Matthew’s love for teaching soccer and working with children makes him a perfect match for our DSA coaching team. His knowledge of the game combined with his dry English humor creates an ideal learning environment where his students look forward to learning each day.  He does an excellent job connecting with his students and transforming them into better players.

In his youth, Matt played for Portsmouth FC in the premier league where he represented his county at various levels. He also played “football” for Eastbourne United AFC and  the University of Brighton which became national champions of the BUSA (British University Sports Association).  Currently, Matthew works in England as computer science engineer.


James Smith

Adding great depth to our coaching team is British coach, James Smith.  He is an excellent teacher of the game who has coached for CACL soccer school since 2002. As a F.A. certified coach, he takes great pride in making his students better players. James patient and encouraging style of coaching creates an atmosphere on the field where his students are not afraid to make mistakes and try new skills.

Coach James loves to travel and experience new cultures. Each year he has taken time to live in other countries such as Thailand, Spain, Vietnam, and New Zealand. Our DSA students benefited from his multi-cultural perspective both on and off the field.
