DSA has joined efforts with the Celebration Center in Fort Fairfield under the leadership of Rev. Mark Babin to bring support to the village of Vignier in Haiti.  Through the generous support of many DSA families, we have contributed to the $100,000 fund-raising effort that was launched after the earthquake.  Celebration Center and DSA have been supporting the village since 1999.  It took 12 years to build the first school and in 33 seconds it was destroyed by the earthquake.

Over 600 kids attend the school in Vignier each day and receive a warm meal.  The steel structure donated for the new school has been delivered, and is in the process of being reconstructed. The school children are attending school in rooms at the church and temporary shelters around the church.  The new school is currently 60% complete.

Additionally, funds rose by the Celebration Center and DSA were used on the following projects:

  • The first home is complete, the family has moved in.
  • The second house, Sarah's house, has been completed, and they have moved in on Tuesday, August 31, 2010.
  • The Third home is being built. A team from Celebration Center went there on March 27-April 2 to build and swing the trusses.
  • Funds are being used to create jobs for the Haitian people in the rebuilding effort.
If you would like to donate money or your time to the people in Haiti, please contact us for more information! 100% of every dollar you give is given directly to the people and is closely monitored to ensure that it is going to the intended cause.  All of the overhead expenses and flights are paid out-of-pocket separately by the volunteer teams who travel there each year to oversee the projects.
